Hello Irkutsk!!! I was in Irkutsk from September 05 to the 11th to visit a close friend that is now my fiancee. I had the opportunity to live in Irkutsk, and visit the surroundings areas, including Lystvyanka and the magnificient Lake Baikal. I returned to Canada but I left my heart and the love of my life in Irkutsk. I look forward to visiting Siberia again in the not so distant future. Thanks for your nice web site, it has allowed me to discover and learn a lot about Siberia before going there. Keep up the good work!! 8-) PS: I love you Natalia!! :-)

Hello, my name is ERIK SCHILT, a dutch photographer. I visited Irkutsk & surroundings from september 7th till 18th, to help my uncle finding a friend MICHAEL ALAPAEV (look at the comment of his son in law PAUL ELLERMAN somewhere else in this guestbook. On the island Olchon I met Nikita Bereshew, a friend of the photographer ALEXANDRE KNYAZEV. I sincerely like to get in contact with him. Please phone (collect call accepted) to 010 265 06 33. I tried several times in the city of Irkutsk, but only got in contact with Russian speaking people. By the way, I can look back with warm feelings to my visit to the city of Irkutsk & his people!

I am sitting here in a small public library in Australia and desperately looking for information about a very (seemingly)remote part of Eastern Siberia (Nikolajevsk). I haven't yet found anything but I have very much enjoyed visiting your site along the way. If there is any one who can direct me to a site with information on Nikolajevsk I would be very appreciative. (One of the characters in my novel comes from there and I need to know why he does and the culture of this place). Thankyou and wishes of happiness to all, blessed be, Angelique

Hello, your internet pages are really very good, interesting and professional. After having watched them, they remind me year 1978, when I was a student and a guide of an Czech travel company and was accompanying a full bus of tourists from Irkutsk region during their stay in Czechoslovakia in Prague, Karlovy Vary and Mariánské Láznì. Many of them were wonderful people and became my friends for several next years.Privet vsem.

You might consider adding my great-grandmother, Pola Kostrukoff, or 'Mme. Pola', as she was known, to your 'famous people from Irkutsk' page. Mme. Pola was the Siberian-born (born circa 1900) fashion designer of US First Lady Bess Truman's Inauguration gown, which today is on display at The Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C., USA. I would be more than happy to provide a photograph or any other needed infomation upon request. A widow with two small children, Mme. Pola came to The USA penniless, and worked her way up to become one of the top fashion designers of her time, a time in US history when it was not common for women to work or have jobs at all. We are very proud of her, as we are of our Siberian heritage. Thank you.

I found Irkutsk in the map while looking for Seveobaikalsk, where I am going to visit a friend in June 2000. I wonder if I shall take the Transiberian or fly. I found very expensive prices for flying within Russia; is any Air company flying from Germany or Spain to those locations with a reasonable price: my destinations are Kaliningrad, Moscow and Irkutsk. Besides Romenia! I am glad for any information about that and any hint on that trip. Flights from Brazil go directly to Moscow. What also bothers me is the requirement to have hotel reservations. How can I do just to visit friend? Siberia seems an unique experience like the Amazon Jungle in my Country, where I have lived for 2 and 1/2 years. Let´s see!

Hallo Irkutsk, twice I have visited your fair city and always have nice memories especially since I have friends living in Irkutsk. I would be interested what the living situation is right now, news from Siberia just trickle and I am a little worried about my friends over there. Presently I am spending time in Australia, news from Europe or the Asian part of Russia are not easy to obtain here. Thanks Peter

Greetings! I am a second generation American whose grandparents came to the United States from Russia before the Russian Civil War. I have a continued interest in the culture of Russia, particularly in regions which are more distant from the major cities. I am also interested in Russian horses and their history.

I am a first generation American of Russian parents who vamer to the U.S. jhust before the revolution. My mother came from Irkutsk, my father from Dnieperpetrovsk (then Ekaterinoslav). I am a senior citizen and have recently started studying Russian history and have learned much about Russia and Russian people thanks largely to the Internet. Last year I toured Russia (down the Volga) and Ukraine (down the Dnieper). Perhaps next year I'll be in Irkutsk? I will welcome any e-mail (in Russian or English but can only send in English) from anyone in Irkutsk.

Hello everyone. Just found this interest web site and hope some of you can help us out. My husband and I host international exchange students and will be hosting a 17 year old girl from Irkutsk in the fall of 1999. She will live with us for one year and attend public high school. Does anyone have information about the area, local customs, foods, weather, etc. How is the mail system? What about other forms of communication? Phone, Internet, etc.? Want to learn as much about this area as possible. Sounds very interesting. Thank you.

Good Day, I am working in Moscow until mid-summer 99 and am planning a trip to Irkutsk and the Baikal region. Will only have time spend about two 1/2 weeks in the regions. If you have any suggestions re: where to stay, what to see and do that would be great. Am planning on going in early June as well. Ron

On Feb26'99@8:12am(your Time) 5 hrs after the 7.5 bal Earthquake my friend fr.Irkutsk emailed me of it. It's been a week and our media hasn't posted it anywhere.. I had 4yrs university,4yrs Navy,25yrs Commercial pilot and had never heard of Lake Baikal. They won't let us know we aren't # 1 in anything. I feel like a MUSHROOM, been kept in the dark and fed B.S. until The INTERNET. If the Internet existed this entire century, I think a couple of World Wars could have been avoided, as well as a mighty COLD one. Love to you all.
