Mon Apr 8 1996 JOINT VENTURE TO BOTTLE BAIKAL WATER. Korea, Japan, Germany and the Arab Emirates are in line to receive water from Lake Baikal. Baikal water will be bottled at an experimental factory owned by a Russian-British joint venture, in which the Russian partner is the "Baikal Association for Tourism and Recreation." The bottling equipment is purchased in Sweden from "Tetra-pak". During the first stage of the project, it is planned to bottle 20-25 tons a shift (20 million tons annually) in paper packs that hold one litre of water. After mastering the market, the annual volume will be raised to 100 million tons, and plastic bottles of different sizes and forms will be used. Water will be brought through a pipeline from a depth of 450 metres. The pipeline will begin operation in the summer of this year. -- Our information
